Our Story

A legacy of discipline rooted in 20th century mastery.

Neil McCarthy’s kung fu lineage descends from Chris Ellerker, whose training began in 1968 under Kim Sen Han. Kim Sen Han later became a formal disciple of Grandmaster Chee Kim Thong (1920–2001), one of the most respected Five Ancestors (Wuzuquan) masters of the 20th century. Through this lineage, Neil McCarthy inherits Northern Shaolin Long Fist supported by internal arts. Additional influences include traditional Yang Style Taijiquan and modern Wushu from nationally recognised Chinese masters.

Tai Chi Lineage & Tradition

Yang Style under the Deyin Family

In addition to kung fu, Neil McCarthy studied Taijiquan directly under Chris Ellerker, including traditional Yang-style Taijiquan and the 32-step Taijijian (Tai Chi sword). This instruction was informed by Ellerker’s own training with Yang-family lineage holders and Chinese national champions, bridging traditional internal principles with modern technical precision.

"Deyin" is named after Professor Li Deyin, signifying a continuation of a family tradition spanning over 120 years. The Deyin Taijiquan Institute (GB) is a leading professional organization outside China, possessing a wealth of knowledge in Taijiquan and Traditional Chinese Martial arts. Instructors are fully qualified and insured, having trained under founders Master Tary & Faye Yip.
