The UK Kung Fu School is a member of The British Council For Chinese Martial Arts.

History

The Council' was set up in accordance with the UK Sports Council's guidelines in 1973 and was granted Sports Council Recognised Governing Body status in 1980. It has a current membership exceeding 75 Organisations/Associations in membership, representing over 10,000 members across all of the major disciplines of Chinese Martial Arts. Its Constitution sets out the Organisational make up and management structure, with an elected Executive and Management Committee who are directly responsible to its members via a Member Council which meet at least once a year at an Annual General Meeting (AGM). Members have the right to dissolve the 10 man Executive Committee and 5 man Management Committee at any time giving due regard to the time requirements and process of the constitution.

Aims & Objectives

The aims and objectives of 'the Council' are very simple, they are to:-

  1. To promote the study and safe practice of Chinese Martial Arts and regulate as far as possible, the ever-growing numbers of clubs and organisations claiming to teach Chinese Martial Arts.
  2. Affiliate to, assist, co-operate with the support national and international organisations having objectives approved by the Members Council.
  3. Act as an advisory body on all matters appertaining to the practice of the Chinese Martial Arts, through liaison with statutory and voluntary bodies, news media and other relevant parties.
  4. Provide members with such services and support as may be available through their membership.

Membership

BCCMA membership is open to all practitioners of Chinese Martial Arts Systems, internal or external, Health or Martial and is open to Clubs, Associations or Organisations regardless of size.

Conditions of Membership

  1. Must be practising as Authentic Chinese based system.
  2. All members to be insured through the Governing Body.
  3. All instructors to have Professional Indemnity insurance arranged through the Governing Body.
  4. Adhere to Safe Teaching practice - implemented or are working towards a Coach education programme. (Being a good practitioner does not necessarily mean that you are a good or knowledgeable coach. Body dynamics, philosophy and physiology of safe stretching, legal requirements, safety, abuse etc.) Coach education programmes are available through the Governing Body for assistant coach through Club Coach to National Coach levels, and are available as Governing Body awards or Professional National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ).
  5. Must be committed to continuous improvement for the development of Chinese Martial Arts.
  6. Commit to sending a representative to the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  7. Have implemented or are working towards fulfilling statutory requirements for Equal opportunities.
  8. Fulfil the technical requirements.
